Arthritis Pain

While there are several different types of arthritis, the one that is most commonly seen by chiropractors is osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis symptoms include:

  • pain and stiffness in the joint (worse in the morning)
  • swelling and warmth in the joint especially during weather changes
  • loss of fexibility in the joint
  • crunching feeling or sound of bone rubbing on bone when the joint is moved

Causes of osteoarthritis can be numerous. Some common reasons include misalignments or abnormal position of the spine over a long period of time, repetitive traumas from work or sports, poor posture and accidents. Other risk factors include age, weight, being a female and other chronic health conditions.

Once osteoarthritis has begun to set in, it can not be reversed. However, the progression can be stopped or slowed down and there are ways to naturally reduce associated pain.

Restoring proper alignment of the spine will reduce your bodies need to stabilize itself, therefore eliminating progression of arthritis. Chiropractic is also very beneficial in reducing arthritis pain. Chiropractic adjustments can restore lost range of motion and felexibilty in joints which can reduce pain. Chiropractors can also prescribe anti-inflammatory supplements to naturally reduce inflammation in the joint. A proper diet that is low in sugar and inflammatory foods will not only help with associated pain, but will also help shed excess pounds that contribute to arthritis pain.
