Migraine & Tension Headaches

Migraines and frequent headaches are not only painful, they can be disruptive of your daily life.  Migraines are all too common in our country, with an estimated 36 million Americans affected.  Migraines cause throbbing or pulsing pain in one area of the head and can last hours to days.  Nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound often accompany a migraine.

Tension and daily headaches usually affect both sides of the head.  The pain is mild to moderate and a pressure or tightening, but not pulsating.  If you have a headache more days than not, then you may suffer from chronic headaches.  The causes of migraines and other headaches is not completely understood.  However, triggers and risk factors include: being female, hormonal changes, different foods, stress, alcohol, changes in sleep patterns, imbalances in brain chemicals that regulate pain in the nervous system or problems with the blood vessels around the brain.  Fortunately, very few headaches have serious underlying causes, but those that do require urgent medical attention.

Research has shown that chiropractic adjustments are very effective in treating headaches.  Patients who received chiropractic care had almost immediate and longer lasting relief.  The doctors at Tobin Family Chiropractic will do a thorough evaluation and determine a proper course of treatment to address the cause of your headaches.
