Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine.  Scoliosis can be causes by conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or a spinal defect, however the majority of scoliosis' are of unknown causes.  Visual signs of scoliosis include:

  • Uneven shoulders
  • One shoulder blade that appears more prominent than the other
  • Uneven waist
  • One hip higher than the other

While scoliosis is predominantly diagnosed in teens and pre-adolescents, it occurs in people of any age.  Mild cases of scoliosis can be symptomatic, however if left untreated it can cause changes in appearance, back and neck pain, and in severe cases, lung and heart damage.

There is no cure for scoliosis, but it can be treated.  Traditional medical treatment consist of observation, bracing, and surgery.  However, specific chiropractic treatment can not only stop progression, but in many cases reduce the curve.  Using a combination of chiropractic, exercise therapy, and rehabilitation yields the  best results in treating scoliosis naturally.
